Halloween at GZAAT is one of the most exciting days of the year! Every October, students and teachers come together to celebrate in creative and fun ways. From spooky and funny costumes to bright decorations, the school becomes full of energy and excitement. This year was no exception, with everyone showing off their amazing costumes and festive spirit.
This year the prefects announced a school-wide halloween costume contest. They created a poster which said “take your pic here!” and hung it in the Georgian hallway. Contestants were supposed to take pictures in front of this poster and email them to the prefects. 3 winners were determined:
1. Tasi Zuroshvili & Tasia Kurdghelia
2. Lile Lelashvili
3. Giorgi Mgeladze
However, there were many other interesting and creative costumes in every grade.
Temo Pedukadze, a Junior High student was a “Babushka” this year.
“My grandma inspired this costume. It took me two seconds to put it together and this is my fifth time wearing this costume. I really liked some witch costumes other students were wearing.”
Freshman Aleksandra Petriashvili was Wanda Maximoff, from WandaVision.
“A couple of months ago I rewatched WandaVision and I realized how much I loved Wanda so I wanted to recreate her. I ordered the costume a couple of weeks ago and had to literally make a costume order. Also, I dyed my hair.”
This was her first time wearing this outfit. “My favorite costume was the Poison Ivy one,” she said.
There were also some rappers in the house. 10th grader Ben Palagashvili was young Metro Boomin, an American hip hop star.
“I like his music which is what inspired the costume. I have his suitcase, wallet, and chains”
Some seniors used Georgian culture references as their costume inspirations. Eli Khokhiashvili, Elene Mansvetashvili and Keto Abashidze were Temur Chkonia and 2 Coca-Colas.
“The new song“ Vwrupav Koka-Kolas” by Shavi borshi inspired us. To put my costume together I bought five Coca-Colas and took the labels off. I don't think anyone has done something like this before.” said Eli Khokhiashvili.
“Some of my favorite costumes were our classmates and friends: sunflower and Van Gogh without an ear, Valerianka and also Central Cee.”
Some of the teachers also put minimal effort into participating in this festivity. Ana Abashidze of the Georgian department was an elf.
“Halloween is one day for people to have fun, it makes them feel non-ordinal. People my age do things they don’t usually dare to and come to school dressed up. I grew up in locked up Georgia and didn’t even know what Halloween was when I was a kid, so I never celebrated it until recent years.”
Levan Gogotishvili of the math department wore a wig Marika Mas gave him. “How much effort did I put into this outfit? Close to zero. However, one of my favorite costumes was the dinosaur in junior high.”
