GZAAT Girls Volleyball Team Wins Black Sea Games Championship!

This May, the girls volleyball team of The Guivy Zaldastanishvili American Academy achieved a victory at the Black Sea Games, an international tournament hosted by the British International School in Tbilisi. The championship brought together talented teams from different schools and countries, competing across many sports fields, but one team stood out above all, ours.

After months of preparation and training, the GZAAT girls volleyball team completed the tournament undefeated, winning all seven of their matches. The team competed against schools including the British International School Tbilisi, British Georgian Academy, and teams from Romania, Turkey, and Armenia. Despite the pressure and high level of competition, the girls showed confidence, determination, and incredible team spirit throughout every game.

What made this victory even more meaningful was the journey behind it. Earlier this year, the team lost the finals of a previous tournament. Instead of giving up, the players used that loss as motivation. They trained consistently throughout the entire year, pushing themselves harder during practices, improving their communication on the court, and learning from every mistake. Their comeback story became one of resilience and perseverance.

The emotional side of the tournament was just as powerful as the results. From the first match to the championship victory, the players supported one another constantly. Every point won was celebrated together, and every difficult moment was faced as a team. No matter what happened during the games, the girls never stopped encouraging each other.

One student shared:

“Yes, winning was amazing, but the experience of playing with people from different countries and meeting girls my age who also play volleyball was very interesting. In between matches, the kids from different teams all played together, had fun, and  the general atmosphere was amazing.”

The tournament created friendships and memories that extended far beyond the volleyball court. Players from different schools and countries were able to connect through sport, creating a positive and exciting environment throughout the event.

Another player commented on the team’s mindset during the competition:

“We had a clear goal, and we went to the tournament and made it happen. Every single point, we encouraged our teammates. No other teams cheered as loud as we did. It was amazing to represent our school this way and to bring home the trophy.”

One thing that everyone at the tournament noticed was the energy of the team. While many teams came prepared to compete, our team brought something extra, spirit. Throughout the tournament, the loudest cheers in the gym always came from the GZAAT girls. Their passion, excitement, and unity inspired both players and supporters alike.

The coach Giorgi Gegenava also spoke about the future goals and plans for the next season:

“Our girls' dedication and high energy to fight to the end have paid off, as evidenced by 7 victories out of 7 matches. We have big plans and goals ahead. We are working with maximum determination to improve our achievements, make the games more spectacular, and achieve high results.”

Winning the Black Sea Games was not only a sporting achievement but also a reflection of hard work, friendship, and school pride. The girls volleyball team represented The Guivy Zaldastanishvili American Academy with excellence and proved that determination and teamwork can lead to incredible success.

Congratulations to our champions on an amazing and unforgettable victory!
